ELECTRIFICATION
Electricity made life more convenient. Television and communications changed everyone's life. Too much politics on TV for too long a time [during election campaigns]. TV good for education. General discussion of changes in technology during Bud's lifetime. Space program baffling in its complexity to understand.
REFLECTIONS
Interviewer continues to interject opinions & ask leading questions. He would not want to live in any other era, even though technological changes are scary. Speculate about future transportation, power shortages, etc. Mentions local man's solar-heated hog house first in world and featured in National Geographic.
TELEPHONE
Discus early phone service. Party lines & crank on the wall phone. Phone service often started as neighborhood project, running lines, etc. People [women] talked all the time. Had to cut in in emergencies. Phones used for emergencies but women liked to gossip on them. Men talked over coffee.
