- Pumpkins thought to be good for livestock. Mentions neighbor selling pumpkins. Cattle just loved them. Children helped prepare pumpkins for pumpkin pie filling. Description of mother making pumpkin pies.
- CHILDHOOD ACTIVITIES
- Never celebrated Halloween. Never saw jack-o-lanterns. Mentions auctioning of special lunch boxes made by girls so boyfriend would buy that box to have lunch with their girlfriend. Description of costume party where Mrs. Saiter & husband-to-be went as man & wife, but she was he & he was she. Story of "ghost" appearing. Daughter guessed identity of ghost due to smell of Fels Naptha Soap. Lunch box auctions held at schools at least twice a year. Recollection of seeing Santa Claus at school for the first time & being scared to death. They had never heard of Santa Claus & teacher had to explain to students what Santa Claus was all about.
