- Notes changes in environment. Reflections on change vs. progress. Notes how limited communication, no phones & just a county paper, made things peaceful. Discussion of WWI & birth of daughter in 1918. Everyone was horrified over war. Mentions daughter & husband visiting Europe now. TV has been a wonderful thing, but has bad influence on morals. People had better morals in past.

- Discussion of collecting sugar-maple & making candy in spring. Did not make maple-syrup. Few other farmers did this. Mentions men gathering wild honey in summer. Saw bees swarming while working in fields & followed swarm. Honey used in medicines, sometimes as a laxative. Also used vinegar in medicines.
