- FAMILY
- Talks about how she and her husband met at a town dinner. Oba didn't have to ask permission to court Lorene. After they married, live with her parents, then moved to their own place, and soon moved to Iowa. Makes most of their children's clothing (all thirteen of them). 5 of her children are married. Liked living in Iowa, but didn't like the roads. Oba's brother and sister lived there. The Herschbergers now live in Illinois, while their other home is occupied by their son, Paul.
- FOOD & MEALS
- Had large strawberry patch; had sweet corn, tomatoes, carrots, radishes, lettuce. Would make fried or mashed potatoes, make tomato juice, salsa or ketchup with the vegetables. Canned tomatoes, carrots. Learned all from mother. When the family gets together, they make a lot of different items, and the children bring their own plate to pass.
- LIVESTOCK
- Didn't have much livestock. Received goat as a wedding gift from parents, took care of it herself. Otherwise they had cows.
- APPLIANCES
- Had kerosene stove and refrigerator; didn't use the stove often because she couldn't stand the smell.
