- Father talked about 'million-dollar rains'. Since he retired and started farming again, he appreciates worry about the weather. Involved in no-till and deep rippers, both of which leave the trash on top to lower erosion. Resistance to no-till at first. More accepted now. Drainage is important in his area. Poorly drained fields a challenge in the 1800s. They put wood tile in by hand. Later clay tile. Old tiles still functioning. Tiles installed in the last 50 years, too. Proper spacing and depth makes a big difference.
