- LIVESTOCK
- Dad had mainly Herefords, feeder cattle he sold in the spring. Raised hogs in the clover and hay fields. Had about 50 cattle plus 80 feeder cattle and 400 Yorkshire hogs. Vaccinate hogs for cholera in older times. They gave antibiotics to cattle & call the vet for a sick cow. Hogs lived in sheds and water tank and corn crib in the hay fields. Had to stoke a fire in the water heater in the winter. Move sheds a couple of times when the hogs root up the area. Had to bring hogs in to wash them to keep them disease free. It was an economic decision to stop raising livestock as prices rise to raise them. Farms changed over to corn and soybeans, or confined livestock inside.
