- FARMING DURING WWII
- Grew hemp, low on manpower; fewer milk runs. Sugar was rationed. Used gasoline sparingly. Rode bicycle. Labor was difficult; factories took some workers; draft and enlistment took others. After war it was still hard to get good help because people liked the other jobs. Usually had 6 - 8 workers living on site and others who lived off site. Grandfather said that proceeds of the dairy supported 50 people on 440 acres; workers and families.
