- BACKGROUND
- Charles would go to Chicago during the weekdays. Attended Illinois Farmers Institute. Had a relationship with an ag econ professor at the U of I. This was in the time of Roosevelt and Truman. Some government programs that Charles was critical of were the government buying pigs and the dumping of milk. His basic philosophy was that the farmers were just as smart and aware as the leaders in government. Government should be a backdrop, not a sustainer. Comes from his trust in the common man. He did not like how the government dictated how much farmers should plant and what prices they should sell for.
