SCHOOL CONSOLIDATION
Transportation was initially a problem after consolidation, but is no longer an issue. Several other districts came to them for advice on consolidation. When Art Layman was school board president, he and Dr. Jackson gave a seminar about consolidation.
REFLECTIONS
Roger feels that farming is more stressful today than it was 30 years ago. There is great risk. When he started farming 90% of farming was crop share, but now it is all on the farmer. A lot of farmers are being challenged by the cash rent and are being forced out. The equipment has changed greatly, to a highly technological state. He suggests that if you grew up on a farm you can easily start a career in agriculture. Roger hopes to be remembered for making a positive impact on society, and for his honesty and caring for students and the community. For his grandchildren and children, he says to pursue a career they are happy with. "What you do for a living pays the bills, but what you do for your fellow man is what really counts."
SCHOOL CONSOLIDATION
After consolidation, extracurricular activities moved to other towns. Parents didn't want to have to drive the extra distance so the schools offered a shuttle that ran after practices.
