- Husband's family were miners. Came from England. After marriage went to St. Louis for work. Then back to mines. Gives names & birthdates of 2 children. Mine work was not 5 days a wk. She worked at store in town. Did not have a car when they moved to Taylorville. Rented apartment for $5/wk. Paid doctor $2/month (taken out of mine salary by UMWA) for family care. Dr. Miller was company doctor who made house-calls.

- Made good, life-long friends in Taylorville. Friends were in mine company, miners & management. Main social activity was going to dances.

- Miners on strike for 6 months. Times were tough. Had to get other jobs. Ansell Triton had Red & White store that extended credit to miners. Many stores extended credit. Progressive Union not very active area. Mentions names of several stores in Taylorville including Calloway's & Doer's clothing stores.
