CROPS
Mr. Nelson discusses relationship between corn prices, consumer demand, & ethanol production. Demand is key. The average yields have increased dramatically. There needs to be more uses of corn, whether it is feed, ethanol, or food. Government also plays a role.
CHANGES IN FARMING METHODS
There has been a major change in farming efficiency (increased bushel yields, shorter time for raising livestock). The machinery in agriculture have made working much more comfortable.
FARM BUSINESS
Phillip says for his son to be successful in agriculture a college education is critical, but also needs some sort of financial field and international trade. He sees a very bright future for farming in Illinois. More marketing opportunities. The family farm is going to change.
