- LIVESTOCK
- In 1998 hog prices dropped to 8 cents a pound. This happened because of an overproduction of pork, and the market collapsed. Also had a shortage of space to process animals. Livestock industries have been a fairly self reliant and independent industry. The pork and poultry industries have consolidated and integrated a lot since 1998. The beef industry will not likely be integrated in the same ways because it takes so long to grow cows. In Illinois, there are guidelines you have to follow if you want to expand your livestock operation. Citing and zoning are done at the state level.
