- ACTIVITIES
- Mrs. Williams tells of what she did for entertainment in & around Carterville, including dances, hearing big bands, going to Creole Springs, traveling in the summer. She would meet husband in Flint, MI where he sometimes worked in the summer when there was no mine work (because of strikes). Return in fall so Mrs. Williams could begin teaching again. Took camping trips in Canada, Niagara Falls, NY, PA, Washington, DC, Mt. Vernon, VA, New England.
- FAMILY FINANCES
- Tells of paying off house, loosing money when banks closed during the Great Depression. Tells of churches helping poor in the Great Depression.
- NON-FARM WORK
- Discussion of School Board's rules & social customs required of teachers. School Board did not like her buying a fur coat or having short hair. Teachers could not drink, smoke, have short dresses, or slacks. Gives opinions on teacher's unions & tenure. Comments on bad dress of some teachers.
