- COLLEGE EDUCATION
- Graduated high school salutatorian and received a scholarship for University of Wisconsin. Took journalism classes, which was not what he wanted to do. He then transferred to a school in Minneapolis that taught broadcasting.
- FARM BUSINESS
- Talks about health insurance and benefits his family did not have. During WWII American agriculture was booming and because his father was a farmer he was exempt from fighting.
- NON-FARM WORK
- Talks about working during school at a Shell gas station. Also talks about his first broadcasting job. He was drafted during WWII but was medically exempt. He then got a job in Appleton, WI as a night jockey. He also worked at a restaurant and in the formal wear department at a clothing store.
