FARMING METHODS
Talks about collective farming versus farming in the United States. Infrastructure and technology were like nothing seen here. Families lived in one long building and schooling was different. Children would be taken away and sometimes never saw family again. Production was all hand labor. Farms were large, but fields were small. People were assigned their fields and what to plant and how much. They had to meet that goal, and fed themselves from the amount that exceeded the goal. The people paid no rent and medication was free, they were "taken care of." American lifestyle was considered the same level as the 4% imperialists.
GLOBAL ECONOMY
Discusses agriculture in South America and how they have changed. Prior to embargo there was no soybean competition. After the embargo, soybean market developed in Brazil and Argentina. Before America was alone in soybean production. Now we have to pay attention to what they're doing. They have millions of acres, technology and knowledge. Now we're working with South America to research and figure out how to best use it. Universal trait of farmers
