- FARM EQUIPMENT
- In 1957 John Deere acqured the Lanz company out of Germany. The Alldog was made for overseas markets. Had mud lugs for letting the wheels go through mud. Had a "buddy seat" for going to town. It was discontinued in 1960. The next item is a replica of the 1837 plow. He used a high carbon content steel for the plow that would self scour.
- BACKGROUND
- John Deere came from the Vermont area. He was convinced to go to Grand Detour, IL to become a blacksmith in 1837. He used a broken saw blade to create a moldboard, and was soon making 10,000 plows a year. He later moved to Moline, IL for the convinence of shipping.
