- APPLIANCES
- Appliances in wife's kitchen in mid 1930's. Electricity didn't come until 1941. Still using old wood stove & gas powered washing machine. Early radio, lights and modern plumbing in early 1940's. Had radio when he was a kid in the 1920's. Could listen with headphones and save power. Wife had come from more modern house.
- SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
- Recreation for young married couples included playing cards (Pinochle), movies, pre-television, mid-1940's. Had cry rooms in theaters. No dances.
- FARM ORGANIZATIONS
- Father and farm organizations and Don and farm organizations.
- FARMING DURING WWII
- Had agricultural deferment, but also dependents. He had a lot of points, enough for 3 men. Had a cousin on the Arizona. Farm prices were already picking up from 1937. Prices regulated. Rations held demand down. Gasoline restrictions. Gas allotment for farmers figured on per acre basis. Government took mileage readings. No pleasure driving. Meat from farm allowed them to buy butter. Some sugar allowed for canning. Coffee without sugar was ok.
