- DISCIPLINE
- Discussion of how boys are disciplined.
- CHURCH
- Catholic Church in DeKalb, CCD, like catechism class, teaches the boys about the church. Bev was raised Anglican, wasn't a big church-goer growing up, but there are similarities. More relaxed these days, more "down-to-earth." Kids are involved.
- NON-FARM WORK
- Jack, does plumbing more often in the summer, get jobs by word-of-mouth. Family needs the extra income. Family stays comfortable with the plumbing income.
- LAND
- Bev & Jack are "buying into the farm." Eventually they'll own it, Angeline does now though. Family made that arrangement before Jack's dad died.
