- RECOLLECTIONS
- Bert would not allow rail men to cuss in depot. Another story about a drunk at Litchfield. "Drunks were a curse!" Story about section foreman at Honey Bend, Sam Evans. Sam was a drunk who would go on "high lonesome" every 3 months or so. Drank a gallon of whiskey. Story is about Sam buying a cow on credit (from Mr. Crawford, a dairyman who was giving depot most of its milk shipment) & then selling it when he was drunk. When fellow bought a gallon of whiskey he also bought a roast to send to his family. Bert loaned him the money to pay the cow-owner back to keep him out of the pen. Talks of trouble getting paid back.
