FAMILY BACKGROUND
Relatives came from Scotland and Ireland, and to Illinois through KY by covered wagon. Born in 1897. Great-grandfather first owned the farmland through the government, and grandfather built the farmhouse in 1878.
LAND
It was originally 20 acres, then added 20 more acres of farmland and 20 more acres of timber. House was built out of Minnesota white pine.
FAMILY
Had an older brother and two older sisters.
FARMING METHODS
Farmed with horses as a child. Planted corn, oats, and some wheat, and later on, soybeans. Kept a few hogs and slaughtered them on the farm.
