- GARDEN
- Used borax in garden to keep cabbage worms away, but can't use copper sulfate or lead arsenic because they are poisonous. Did not raise many carrots. Grew parsnips. To store parsnips, they leave them in the garden to freeze in the winter.
- WILDLIFE
- Rabbits eat carrots and parsnips from garden. Raccoons get into the corn crib, but they can be tamed. Had a dog, but neighbors would complain because loose dogs harassed the sheep. Had cats, but cats ate the birds. Loves to bird-watch.
- GOVERNMENT
- Educated himself about oil drilling and geology. Believes the US should not be importing oil from "Arabia." "Capitalists are a hindrance to the progress of this country."
