- CHICKENS
- Has 5 hens and a rooster on the farm. They feed potato peelings to the rooster and call him "Caud Saw" because of the sound he makes. Rooster comes when called.
- FAMILY ACTIVITIES
- For Christmas, they did not have a Christmas tree. Grandparents lived with the family. Later got little cedar trees for Christmas. Gifts were mostly homemade toys. Decorated a small tabletop tree with balls and decorated dolls. Got small gifts like stockings, hair ribbons, and toothbrushes, because the family was poor. Had chicken, pies, and cakes on Christmas. Christmas dinners were at the farm and Thanksgiving dinners were at uncle's house. Family members brought food when they came over.
- FOOD & MEALS
- Sister bakes bread sometimes, when the family is tired of baker's bread. Mother made dough at night, let it rise overnight, and then baked it in the morning. Sister used to make and sell yeast. Describes process of making and selling yeast. Sold cakes of yeast for a penny per cake.
