FARM BUSINESS
Clarence comments on government help, thinks they're doing all they can do. He believes the grain elevators and trade boards shouldn't control grain prices for overseas markets. Has heard of unethical practices and the embargo that are/were harmful. Grain embargo was bad ides. Blames the Carter administration. Comments on price of farm equipment. Clarence calls for more careful planning. Mrs. Neujahr points out the affordability of food in the USA, compares it to Europe. Thinks farmers should get more for their product here, will drive national food prices up, but farmers will get help. Clarence contemplates who should price farm products.
FARMING METHODS
Clarence thinks farmers should diversify, more than corn and beans, (mentions channel 26 and 11 farm programs). Tells about cool storage igloos that can be used as hog-huts & this represents adaptability.
LAND
Reflects on land loss in the face of development, wishes it could stay farm land but recognizes population increase. Mentions WWII baby boom, current surplus of schools from that. Mrs. N mentions no more sub-division of property is allowed. She also recalls a successful effort to keep an airport from going in nearby. Neujahrs talk about 40-acre policy, it's good for the future of farming/farmland.
