Would have 5-6 neighbor families over to butcher hogs and would help butcher neighbors' hogs. Describes the process of rendering lard from a butchered hog and smoking the hog meat. Describes scalding hogs to take off the hair and take out the entrails to render that fat. None of the neighbors butcher hogs anymore. Women would socialize and prepare dinner and help butcher the hog on butchering day. Went to a different neighbor each week as a social activity.
