- George Marr was born in Greensburg, Kentucky in 1902 and came to Bates, Illinois to be a farmer. Through hard work, George farmed 900 acres, owned 300 acres, he talks about farming and the building of the Experimental Road in Illinois that was the model for early hard roads.
