- ACTIVITIES
- Describes the process of threshing wheat and its place as a social activity in the summer in early July. Butchering would take place in the late fall or winter. Families would visit each other on Saturday nights. Had the elevator owner and his wife and the depot owner and his wife over on some nights. Played card games like Rook while the children played together. Everyone's children came to the get-togethers.
- FAMILY
- Has children in Morris, IL, Springfield, IL, and one on the farm. Oldest boy was killed in an accident while driving a semi-truck on the highway near Auburn, IL. The other son lives on the farm.
- TRANSPORTATION
- Thinks they built the Experimental Road in Bates because it was away from other country roads and oil roads, and it was near the train depot. The experimental road went through a farm instead of being on an existing road.
