FARM BUSINESS
Was mostly corn and beans until they started their pumpkin operation. Began planting apple trees. Diversified several fields. Labor intensive when handling the pumpkins. Teenage hired help. Not as simple as it used to be. Lots of paperwork, W-2 forms, can't just hand them cash and see them the next day. Ran into zoning issues - went from agriculture to commercial agriculture - and had to make an appropriate driveway for the shop. Opened up the farm in 1999. Raises about 3,000 mums a year.
FARM ORGANIZATIONS
Daughter raised chickens for her 4-H project, sold eggs on the side.
POULTRY
Raises chickens, turkeys, ducks, pheasants, and peacocks.
ACTIVITIES
Mentions the corn maze they have created in their fields.
