ETHANOL
BTU is higher from the oil companies than ethanol because it's a purer product. But it doesn't boost the octane. Need to make engines more efficient. Corn and soybean prices have fallen by 50% in a year. Critics of ethanol blamed rise in food prices on ethanol production, despite the fall of corn and soybean prices, food prices have remained high. Rather, it can blamed on energy and speculation.
FARM EQUIPMENT
GPS and technology have changed farming. Global positioning means you plant and farm by the square inch. Things are done much more specifically. Some farms are still low technology while other farmers are so technology reliant they don't even turn their steering wheel. It's much more enjoyable and comfortable in the cab now, much better working conditions.
FARMING METHODS
Don't use near as much herbicides or pesticides. Chemical are much more effective. Round up herbicide was safe and good chemical, easily adapted and eliminated weeds. Round up ready soybeans and corns means the plants are not set back by certain herbicides and kills everything else. Has increased yields and is better for the environment, too.
